Riyadh is the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its largest city. The name 'Riyadh' is derived from the Arabic word "rawdah" which means a place of gardens and trees. Riyadh was part of the First Saudi State in the 18th century having its capital at Diriyah. Later, in 1818, the capital was shifted to Riyadh after the Turks destroyed Diriyah.

Riyadh is rich with every kind of restaurant; Arabic, Lebanese, Indian, Pakistani, French, Italian, Thai, Greek, Chinese, Mexican, Japanese etc. There are numerous fast food centers in the city.

Drink
Alcohol is strictly prohibited. Local and international non-alcoholic softdrinks are easily available in restaurants and super markets. Also well known international coffee bars are common.
